China Airlines’ new Boeing 777 to feature family friendly ‘SkyCouch’
While economy class passengers are feeling the pinch with ever decreasing legroom, China Airlines is offering a different, more family friendly approach.
The carrier has just taken delivery of a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft which features a ‘family couch,’ a concept first patented by Air New Zealand.
On its three seat configuration in economy class, each of the three seats combine to make a single flat surface just like a conventional couch, without the armrests impacting comfort, often referred to as ‘cuddle class.’
The new aircraft interiors were created by Taiwanese designer Ray Chen.
"Over the past two years, China Airlines has taken a broad new approach and philosophy to cabin design," said China Airlines Chairman Huang-Hsiang Sun
"In addition to enhancing safety and fuel efficiency, China Airlines is making a pioneering move in the airline industry to incorporate Taiwan’s cultural creativity into its cabin interior and I am confident that this will leave a lasting impression on passengers and enhance our competitiveness."
This is the first of 10 777’s ordered by the airline and has a three-class configuration, accommodating 358 passengers.
The aircraft will be launched on the Hong Kong route later this month and will eventually be used on trans-Pacific flights from Taipei to North American cities Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York.
