Delta flight evacuated after tires blow on landing
Passengers had to be evacuated via an emergency slide after tires blew and caught fire on a Delta Air Lines jet.
The aircraft’s tires blew and ‘components of the landing gear were hot;’ as it screeched to a halt, the airline said.
One passenger was injured during the evacuation at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.
“We appreciate the efforts of our flight crew and Hartsfield-Jackson first responders to manage through the safe landing,” Delta said.
“We apologize to each for this experience — nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and crew.”
There were nearly 200 passengers and crew on the flight.
The flight had arrived from Richmond, Va.
The left main gear tires blew when the plane made a hard landing.
It caused the plane to skid on the runway, one passenger said.
The FAA is investigating the incident.
