EasyJet shares soar on rising passenger figures

Travel and tourism shares marked time yesterday as London’s main equity indices managed to make reasonable gains.

The FTSE 100 index added 29.6 points to end the day at 4977, while the FTSE 250 put on 22 points to end the day at 7239.5.

The biggest move of the day came at easyJet, which added 9.25p to close at 224p after reporting that passenger numbers in March reached 2.57 million – up from two million in the same month last year.
