Hostels replacing budget hotels?
It’s not always common knowledge, but in the hospitality business, upscale hostels are increasingly being seen as a replacement for budget hotels.
“Many people, especially in the US, have an opinion of hostels which simply isn’t true: our boutique hostels combine the best of both worlds,” said Jeremy Poon of Broadway Hotel & Hostel. He says upscale hostels combine comfort with affordability.
“As much as we love hostels, sometimes we find it hard to demonstrate just how much they have changed in the last few years,” said David Smith, CEO of HostelBookers.
Smith points out that hostels often offer Wi-Fi with luxuries such as big screen TVs and surround sound cinemas, and video games.
Hostels often have good central city locations and they encourage socialization, he added.
HostelBookers says it is the only major budget accommodation Web site in the travel industry that does not charge a booking fee. It claims that on average, it charges 5.1 percent less than its nearest competitors.
It features over 18,000 hostels and budget properties on its Web site in 3,500 destinations across the world at www.hostelbookers.com.
