Hotel guests flee Cancun beach shootout
Hotel guests fled in panic as gun violence returned to Cancun’s beaches. Two men died in what police say was a turf war dispute between rival gangs. It happened in front of the Azul Beach Resort and the Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun.
The head prosecutor of Quintana Roo state, Oscar Montes de Oca said a group of about 15 targeted the two men and made their escape by speedboat. One of the men ran into a hotel before dying there. The other died on the beach.
Although rare, tourists have been caught in the crossfire of drug gang gun battles on occasions before. Two tourists were killed in a shootout in Tulum recently.
