Maui, Hawaii (January 2019) – Kaanapali Beach Hotel, known as Hawaii’s Most Hawaiian Hotel, announces the debut of a brand-new paddling waa (canoe) experience, available to guests exclusively at the hotel’s ocean activity center, Hale Huakai.

The new Waa (canoe) named "Kaleopookela," meaning "the Voice of Excellence," is the first ever paddling canoe experience for tourists owned and operated by a hotel on Kaanapali Beach. The canoe is named in honor of Project Pookela, in effect since 1986. On this exciting new tour, guests will have the opportunity to venture out beyond Puu Kekaa and learn about Maui above and underwater from a Hawaiian perspective. Beach Alakai (guides) guide canoe passengers through the ocean and the mystical places of Maui.

"We are so excited to be the first hotel on Kaanapali Beach to own and operate a paddling canoe tour for the islands’ guests. It is a fantastic addition to our Hale Huakai which provides our guests with truly memorable and safe ocean experiences, led by our Beach Alakai, who are each highly experienced Maui watermen. We can’t wait for visitors to experience this one-of-a-kind canoe tour," said Iokepa Naeole, Manager of Hale Huakai.

Paddling canoe tours take place on Kaanapali Beach, oceanfront at the hotel at 9:00 am HST. Participants can choose a group tour or a private charter tour, where it is possible to sightsee, snorkel, participate in a cultural tour, or whale-watching (in season).

Hale Huakai, Kaanapali Beach Hotel’s ocean activity center, offers guests the chance to go beyond their traditional water activity experience through complimentary and paid offerings, dedicated to providing an authentic Hawaiian presentation of water sports and oceanside living. Each guest who visits the Hale Huakai comes away with a true understanding of how the ancient Hawaiians immersed themselves within their surrounding environment. Hale Huakai is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
