Trade holds its breath over election result
The travel industry was waiting anxiously to see the outcome of the general glection this morning as a hung Parliament was confirmed despite the Conservatives making gains against Labour.
The Tories are the largest party but crucially without enough seats to win an overall majority, with most of the results now in.
A hung parliament raises uncertainty in financial markets which would have a major impact on consumer confidence and spending power on travel.
Conservative leader David Cameron said Labour had lost its mandate to run the country but his party failed to secure an overall majority.
The Liberal Democrats failed to make significant gains despite the high public profile of leader Nick Clegg in live televised debates.
Clegg admitted that he was disappointed with his party’s performance.
The outcome leaves the UK in limbo with decisions yet to be made on who will lead the country.
