Travelodge announces plans for 15 new hotels this year
Travelodge has announced plans to open 15 new hotels in 2015 creating 400 new jobs.
The investment of almost £100 million will see new hotels in four London locations, a new central Glasgow property and regional location including the Thames Valley, Southampton and Bristol.
The hotel chain says 350 of the new jobs with be spread across the hotels with the remaining 50 in support roles.
The first three hotels to be confirmed are properties in London Dagenham, Dover and Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, at a total investment value of £13m.
Travelodge says it has identified potential for 150 further hotels across the UK over the next eight years.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, who was visiting Birmingham Airport Travelodge, said: "Our long-term economic plan for the Midlands is to make the area an Engine for Growth by backing business and supporting growth. The expansion of a great British brand like Travelodge within a growing hotel and leisure industry in the UK, is fantastic news."
"Travelodge’s expansion is not just reliant however on tourists as increased demand from business customers and families have also boosted growth."
Travelodge chief executive, Peter Gowers, said: "In 2015 we are opening 15 new hotels, creating 400 new jobs and extending our network still further."
