US State Department warns against travel to three countries
Latest countries for US citizens to avoid: Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Pakistan.
The US State Department has issued travel advisories for those countries.
“Violent crime by ordinary citizens and law enforcement and military personnel raises security risks for American citizens traveling to (Nigeria),” says the State Department. They also warn of tensions between Muslim and Christians and poor road conditions.
Avoid the Congo because of “periodic fighting and widespread civil unrest,” the State Department said. Looming elections could also cause more demonstrations, crime and violence, they added.
Continuing terrorist activity in Pakistan led to the warning there.
“Bombs were detonated near businesses and American fast food restaurants in Karachi last fall, killing three people and injuring others,” according to the State Department.
