VLM carryings up 9% in 2007
VLM Airlines saw passenger carryings rise by nine per cent to 745,781 in 2007.
The airline’s fastest growing route last year was London City Airport–Isle of Man, which saw an increase of 83% compared to 2006.
London City–Jersey carried 16,668 passengers in 2007, an increase of more than four per cent.
The carrier, which was bought by Air France/KLM in December, carried almost 110,000 passengers on its London City–Manchester service, the third largest on its network with seven return flights each weekday.
VLM carried more than 300,000 passengers on its services to and from Holland – the carrier offers flights from London City to Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Groningen in addition to a Manchester-Rotterdam link.
Demand for services to Amsterdam increased the most, with passenger numbers rising by 44% to total 151,165.
From next month, the airline adds an additional return flight on this route, bringing the total number of departures from London City to 11 every weekday.
With more than 88,000 passengers in 2007, the London City-Antwerp route increased by six per cent. A Manchester-Antwerp service, which was launched at the end of 2006, carried nearly 26,000 passengers in 2007.
A service from London City to Luxembourg saw 10% growth to 60,847 passengers.
The total number of passengers using VLM’s charter services totalled 47,897 in 2007.
