Airline to sell ad space on its planes
Debt-riddled Air India is planning to carry advertisements on its aircraft to generate additional revenue.
"Ads can be placed on the tail or the hull of the aircraft," a source in the national carrier was quoted as saying in a report in Business Today.
The airline, which has accumulated losses and loans of USD12 billion, has 111 aircraft in its fleet.
Air India is also also planning to show advertisements inside the aircraft.
"The passenger may or may not see the advertisement on the aircraft body. But the passenger will definitely see advertisements on panels, bins, screens, pillows and seat covers," the source said.
The airline is also looking at creating advertisement space on some 22 million boarding passes which it issues annually.
