Boy scout’s toy grenade prompts evacuation at Houston Hobby Airport
An early morning security scare forced the shutdown of part of Houston Hobby Airport due to a boy scout’s toy grenade.
The ‘novelty grenade’ was spotted in the boy’s carry-on bag at TSA screening, which immediately prompted a partial evacuation of the airport terminal.
The TSA set up a 200-feet perimeter according to Bill Begley, spokesperson for Houston Airports System.
It then created a backlog of about 1,000 passengers waiting to check in for flights.
The shutdown lasted more than an hour which impacted at least 15 Southwest Airlines flight departures.
The boy scout was questioned but not charged.
It occurred only one day after Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport had its own bomb scare.
That was sparked after an impatient passenger made an ‘inappropriate comment’ about carrying a bomb in his bag which led to bomb squad to close the international terminal for nearly an hour.
