Operators join forces for ski campaign
A consortium of ski tour operators and associations is to push ski and snowboard holidays through a campaign in November.
The Snowsport Forum will launch the Give Snow a Go promotion as the theme of this year’s National Ski and Snowboard Week on November 12-18.
The initiative has been devised to break down the taboos of winter sports and encourage more Brits onto the slopes, according to the forum.
Operators involved include Thomson Ski, Neilson, Crystal Holidays, Mark Warner and Interski.
Events and promotions will include competitions to win ski holidays, ski holiday offers, après ski parties, discounts on artificial snow slope lessons and entrance and phone-ins for non-skiers and those who have not been skiing for a few years.
Caroline Stuart-Taylor, chief executive of the Ski Club of Great Britain and chairman of the Snowsport Forum, said: “Skiing was once only enjoyed by a select few. In the past ten years, the growth of no-frills flying, the accessibility of new destinations and the drop in real terms of the cost a ski holiday, as well as the growth in snowboarding and resurgence of interest in skiing, has opened up the realistic opportunity of a winter sports holiday to many more British holidaymakers.
“Active holidays in the mountains offer a huge number of health benefits, from the simple pleasure of being out in the fresh mountain air to the calorie burning exercise, to the fun of being together with friends and family. We want many more Brits to discover this alternate and healthy way to holiday and join the rest of Europe and America out on the slopes”.
